Parenting From the Heart: Why Connection Matters More Than Control
Motherhood has a way of stretching us in ways we never imagined. From the sleepless nights of infancy to the big emotions of childhood and the complex questions of the teen years, parenting constantly pulls at our capacity for patience, wisdom, and grace.
And if we’re honest, most of us feel the pressure to “get it right.” We want our kids to love God, make wise choices, and grow into whole, thriving adults. But in the process, it’s easy to slip into parenting from a place of fear: controlling behavior instead of connecting with the heart.
When my kids were little, I demanded their respect and obedience. That was the way I was taught, that was the way I was parented. But after the Lord got a hold of my heart, I began to see things differently. I wanted to be the best example of the Father to them that I could be. Instead of being so frustrated with them all the time because they didn't do things the way I thought they should, out of a desire to control them.
Why Control Doesn’t Work
Control might get short-term results, but it doesn’t cultivate long-term transformation. Rules can shape behavior, but they can’t change a child’s heart. When our parenting is fueled by fear, we end up micromanaging, lecturing, or overcorrecting. This leaves both us and our kids drained.
But there’s another way.
Heart-Centered Parenting
Heart-centered parenting starts with us as parents. First, we have to be anchored in God’s love, healed from past wounds, and rooted in His truth. From that place, we can parent from connection instead of control.
It’s about slowing down to see your child the way God does.
It’s about listening before correcting.
It’s about speaking identity, not just pointing out mistakes.
It’s about creating a home atmosphere where your child feels secure, valued, and loved...
Just as the Father does for us.
When you parent from the heart, discipline becomes discipleship. Correction becomes connection. And everyday moments become opportunities for Kingdom influence.
It's about focusing on the heart of your children. Parenting from a place of unpacking and training, instead of demanded respect and obedience.
A Journey Worth Taking
The truth is, none of us do this perfectly. I’ve had plenty of moments where fear got the best of me and I defaulted to control. But I’ve also seen the fruit of what happens when I shift my posture, when I shepherd my kids’ hearts instead of managing their behavior.
That’s why I created the Heart-Centered Parenting Course. It’s not about giving you more to-do lists or impossible standards. It’s about helping you parent with clarity, confidence, and connection—rooted in God’s love and empowered by His Spirit.
