Raising Kids Who Know Their Kingdom Identity
As Christian parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is helping them discover and live out their kingdom identity. In a culture that constantly tries to define who they are, our kids need a firm foundation in Christ to know who they are and whose they are.
But here’s the truth: before we can teach identity to our kids, we first need to know our own. As parents, our security in Christ is the overflow from which we disciple our children. Do you know and believe your identity in Christ? Do you know that you are loved, accepted, and chosen? Or are you walking around afraid that you are rejected, alone, and abandoned.
If you don't know your Kingdom Identity. How will your kids know theirs? If you home feels like its falling apart, maybe it's because your family as a whole doesn't know who they are or WHOSE they are.
Why Kingdom Identity Matters
When kids know their identity in Christ, they:
-
Walk with confidence, no longer swayed by what others think.
-
Step boldly into their purpose and calling.
-
Stand firm when facing rejection, pressure, or spiritual battles.
Without that identity, purpose feels shaky. With it, everything flows from knowing they are children of God.
No longer are there messy outbursts, because you can speak directly to the heart issue. That they are loved, chosen, and accepted. No longer do they melt down because of the lies they believe that "nobody cares." When identity is instilled everything flows out of them more naturally.
Practical Ways to Instill Identity in Kids
-
Speak life over them. Remind your children what you see in them—“You’re a great friend,” “You’re courageous,” “You’re compassionate.” Your voice can become their inner voice.
-
Pray specifically. Don’t just pray protection—pray that their minds would be renewed and rooted in Christ.
-
Use Scripture as the anchor. When lies creep in (“I’m not good enough,” “Nobody likes me”), point them to what God says in His Word.
-
Understand their design. Learning about your child’s redemptive gift helps you disciple them in the way God uniquely wired them.
Using Story as a Discipleship Tool
Sometimes sermons don’t stick in the same way that stories do. That’s why I wrote The Armor Series—a discipleship resource disguised as an adventure.
-
Book 1: The Sword & The Spirit → Teaches the Armor of God (Ephesians 6).
-
Book 2: The Sword & The Stones → Explores putting on the new man in Christ (Colossians 3).
-
Book 3: The Cornerstone (launching Oct 7) → Shows kids that Jesus is the firm foundation of their lives (Ephesians 2).
These books give parents a fun way to disciple their kids through read-alouds, devotion tie-ins, and heart conversations that flow naturally from the story.
