Raising Watchmen, Not Fearful Kids
What if one of our greatest responsibilities as parents isn't to protect our children from every difficult or uncomfortable situation, but to teach them how to stand firm when those situations come?
In this episode of the Family Room Mission Podcast, Ashley Tilford explores what it means to raise watchmen, not fearful kids. Throughout Scripture, watchmen were called to stand alert, recognize danger, sound the alarm, and remain faithful to what God had entrusted to them. As parents, we have the opportunity to teach our children those same spiritual musclesā€”not by filling them with fear, but by equipping them with truth.
Ashley walks through the reality that following Jesus comes with a cost. Our children need to know that there will be moments when obedience to God means standing when others sit, speaking truth when others remain silent, and choosing faithfulness when following Jesus isn't comfortable. Preparing our children for those moments now gives them tools they can carry into adulthood.
When we teach our children that their safety and identity are ultimately found in Jesus, we can help them develop the courage to move forward even when they feel afraid.
