Correction That Builds Identity, Not Breaks It
What if the goal of correction wasn’t simply to get our children to behave—but to help them become who God created them to be?
In this episode of the Family Room Mission podcast, Ashley Tilford continues the conversation about discipline without shame or fear and takes it one step further: learning how to correct our children in a way that strengthens their identity instead of breaking their spirit.
As parents, it can be easy to respond to our children’s behavior from our own fear, frustration, shame, or the ways we were parented. But when we begin to understand our children as image-bearers of God—with their own personalities, designs, thought processes, and ways of processing the world—our approach to correction can change.
Correction doesn’t have to communicate, “You are bad.” It can communicate, “You are loved, you are capable of growth, and I am here to help you become who God created you to be.”
If you’re ready to move beyond behavior modification and learn how to parent from a place of connection, identity, and intentional discipleship, Ashley’s Heart-Centered Parenting Course is available on her website.
